These Apple Pie Bourbon Shots Taste Like Fall in a Glass

Image
Natalie Migliarini Do you love apple pie so much you're on the hunt for more ways to consume it (perhaps without all those calories)? Same with me, which is why I wanted a way to sip it. I went ahead and infused bourbon with all the flavors that make apple pie so darn delicious (think apples and warming spices). The results are so brilliant and the process so simple! Natalie Migliarini Infusing booze might seem fancy — but it's far from it. All you do is fill a mason jar with your ingredients — in this case that means bourbon, chopped apples, sugar, nutmeg, cinnamon, and ginger — and let the mixture sit for a couple of days. (You can infuse the bourbon for up to four days if you taste it and want even more flavor.) Then you strain the bourbon and use it for sipping for making any number of fall cocktails. Tomatoes Topped With Crabmeat and Basil

Image
Johnny Miller If you don't have the time or the inclination to peel the tomatoes, use the juiciest tomatoes you can find, slice and season them, top with the crabmeat and basil, and enjoy! Serves 6 Ingredients: 6 ripe medium to large Creole or other in-season tomatoes Salt 1⁄2 cup mayonnaise 1 sprig fresh basil, 6 small leaves reserved for garnish and the rest finely chopped 2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard  2 cups jumbo lump crabmeat, picked over  Basic Creole Spices 3 - 6 chive or garlic chive blossoms for garnish, optional Directions:  1. To peel the tomatoes, bring a medium pot of water to a boil over high heat. Core the tomatoes, then score the bottoms by making a small X. Blanch 3 tomatoes at a time for exactly 5 seconds per batch, moving them around with a pair of tongs or a slotted spoon. Transfer the tomatoes cored-side down to paper towels to let drain and cool briefly, then peel off skin and discard. 2. Using ...

This is How IKEA Would Tell You to Make an Apple Pie

Image
Mike Reddy No holiday menu would be complete without some kind of show-stopping dessert — or several, if you're a more-is-more type. Apple pie is a quintessential Thanksgiving treat, especially when it's topped with a lattice crust that gives you a sneak peek of the cinnamon-flecked apple slices inside. It also falls under that fail-safe category: You know everyone you invite will love it, some will actually expect it, and since it is a major holiday, you might as well go all the way and make it yourself. In fact, you may even feel like you need to make it, just to have it in your 'classic recipes conquered' repertoire, like roasting a chicken or perfectly toasting a Pop-Tart. With that in mind, you get to work. You roll out the dough, flouring the surface perfectly to keep the dough from tearing or sticking to the rolling pin. Inside, you applaud your mad genius (as well you should). You peel, core and slice the apples, spicing them just so and spritzing them with...

Pumpkin Truffles Will Make Your Fall Infinitely Better

Image
SALLY QUINN Meet your new favorite fall treat. In my insane pumpkin-loving world, nothing compares to the combination of rich chocolate and spiced pumpkin. I decided to put the two together and create what I believe to be the best candy around. Little bites of fall, I call them. SALLY QUINN Look how impressive they are. I love easy candy recipes that appear fancy, but are totally manageable at home. But, like most candy recipes, there isn't room for ingredient substitution.  Sally Quinn I find these truffles get even better — and the pumpkin flavor becomes more prominent — after a day in the refrigerator. You can use semi-sweet or white chocolate to coat the truffles. I prefer a mix of both. SALLY QUINN Get the recipe. Every other week, Sally Quinn of  Sally's Baking Addiction  will send you to dessert #bliss on Delish.com with a sweet treat from her sugar-filled kitchen. From: Delish By Sally Quinn
