A Damaged Dresser Tries Herringbone on for Size

When Gilly, the blogger behind Colour Saturated Life, found this prim and proper dresser, she was instantly smitten with its shape — especially the curvy Queen Anne-style legs. But the surface was badly scratched (and the interior had termite damage), so it required some sprucing before she could offer it a good home.

Gilly's a pro at painting furniture (check out her many projects here), but she didn't want to completely cover the stunning striated wood veneer on this piece. Instead, she re-stained the top and drawers a handsome chocolate hue, and used creamy milk paint to add a modern surprise. A herringbone pattern (and a hidden pop of yellow inside in the drawers) offers the dresser a new 21st-century life, but doesn't smother its past in all-over color.
