These Monochrome LEGOs Are the Perfect Gift for Architecture Nerds

Unless you have a kid who loves to build, it's probably been a few years since you last picked up a set of brightly colored LEGOs. And newsflash: They aren't brightly colored anymore.

The LEGO Architecture Studio isn't, anyway. The sleek 1,200-piece set still comes in various shapes and sizes, but LEGO has abandoned the traditional primary palette for white and clear bricks instead. The company hopes to pique architect's interest — and tap into their nostalgic side, since many of them probably first got their start in the playroom, designing LEGO buildings as kids.

There's also a 272-page inspirational guide book that suggests designs based on some of the world's most significant buildings. Basically, architecture buffs are going to love this.

On the less expansive end of the spectrum, LEGO has also just announced its new NYC skyline-inspired set (it will hit shelves in January), which features blocks and instructions needed to create mini versions of the Flatiron Building, Chrysler Building, Empire State Building, One World Trade Center and the Statue of Liberty.

Despite the adult-friendly makeover, remember that LEGOs are still the absolute worst when you step on them, so you'll probably want to package them up with a pair of the protective slippers that the company rolled out last month.
