Get a Sneak Peek at Chip and Joanna Gaines' New Bakery

MAGNOLIAMARKET.COM
Chip and Joanna Gaines, stars of HGTV's Fixer Upper and visionaries behind oh, roughly every kitchen your mom has pinned to her "Home Ideas" board, have been pretty tight-lipped on the details of their new bakery, Magnolia Flour, since Joanna's initial announcement on Instagram nine weeks ago.

The bakery's official launch is currently set for mid-May, according to Joanna's February 25 blog post, but we've done some sleuth work, and here's what we've learned about the Waco, Texas-based shop — and a few educated guesses (read: pure speculation based on obsessive Instagram/Internet stalking) on what's to come.

1. It will serve strawberries and cream cupcakes.

We took a final vote for the icing flavor on the strawberry cupcake... Front and center is the winner! My gut says to go with the cream! I love the blend of it with the strawberry cake for the bakery 😍 #strawberriesandcream #ineedasteaknow (opening late spring at the silos!)

After taste-testing a variety of frostings to complement the bakery's strawberry cupcake — judging by the photo, it looks like cream cheese and strawberry were two other contenders — Joanna settled on a classic: vanilla buttercream.

Expect to find other tried-and-true flavors, like chocolate and vanilla, too, based on other Instagram posts from the duo's Magnolia Market account:

Here’s a sneak peek of some tasty treats that will be on the menu at The Bakery! Yum! How many of you can’t wait to get your hands on one of these? #bakery #wacotown

2. There will be shiplap involved.

Okay, so we have no hard proof to back this claim up, but anyone who's watched even a commercial for Fixer Upper knows the couple loves the rustic wood siding. (They even sell a #shiplap tee online.)

We can only imagine it will make an appearance here too, like it does in this employee meeting room:

Hi friends! Have any of you been to @magnoliamarket or shopped their goodies online? I'd love for you to share your favorite pic from the store or your #magnolia goodies from your own home for my hashie #myneutralmonday !! This is a pic I took of the employee meeting room at the #silos. We were blessed with a private tour and when I saw this spot... I mean who wouldn't want to work here? Staff meeting? Yes please!! Would my friends Jamie @threetwentyco Alley @coffeeandapaintbrush Katie @kbriwilliams or Abbie @misformama like to share? #shiplap #farmhousetable #rusticdecor #openbeam #rusticdecor #neutraldecor #neutraldecorating #myneutralmonday #farmhousechic #HomeStyleSense #countryliving

3. Some recipes are still being finalized.

Joanna's admitted she's still making some final tweaks to the menu, but since Magnolia Flour is intended as a way for her to share her love of baking with fans and visitors, you can expect that every treat will have a personal twist. The bakery's landing page describes some of her favorite sweets, like chocolate cake, Syrian donuts, chocolate chip cookies and pie, so it's a safe bet that those will probably be served.

I'm gonna need my stretchy pants after this week. I'm surprised the smell of this pecan pie isn't waking @chippergaines up. #bakingismytherapy #eatingitisnicetoo

4. Expect plenty of chocolate.

If Joanna's holiday baking is any indication, you better believe there will be plenty of white, dark and milk chocolate-covered sweets available.

I may have gained ten pounds today... #christmasbaking

5. You might find fruit smoothies.

Chip and Joanna's two oldest children are following in their parents' entrepreneurial footsteps, selling their own fruit juice blends to dear old mom and dad. Hey, if the parents really like them, who's to say they couldn't appear on the Magnolia Flour menu? Either way, we appreciate their tenacity.

Our two oldest have started their own juicing business at home- breakfast only cost me 30 cents this morning! 😂

6. Magnolia Market's kitchenware should have a starring role.

It makes sense that the tiered cake stands, hearty white ceramic mugs and distressed wire baskets Chip and Joanna love enough to sell in their store, Magnolia Market at the Silos, would also be used in the bakery next door.

We can see it already: "I'll have a blueberry muffin, two chocolate chip cookies, and oh, a replica of every bowl, utensil and modern-meets-rustic stool in your store. Kthankstakeallmymoneybye."

7. Chip's breakfast of champions may not make the menu.

Given this is a bakery and not a full-service restaurant, there probably won't be fried egg-topped pancakes, but we can dream, can't we?

Breakfast of champions.

We could see Joanna's "Power Balls," an oatmeal-based, no-bake snack she says tastes like cookie dough, on the menu instead.

Up on the blog today: Learn how to make one of Joanna's favorite snacks — which also happens to make a simple and quick after-school snack for the kids! Link in profile. #recipe #afterschoolsnack #joannagaines

If it doesn't, though, don't despair — you can find her recipe for them here.

8. Imagine plenty of white — and natural light.

Chip and Joanna have taken the bars off the windows of the shop, replacing the windows entirely with antique metal-framed ones that will let in more natural light.

How cool do these new metal paned windows look against the antique brick at the bakery?! These are going to make all the difference when it comes to natural light. #bakery #wacotown

If the couple's Fixer Upper aesthetic is any indication, the kitchen itself will probably feature lots of white subway tile, dark metal accents, open shelves and light wood. Basically, the more open, airy and laid-back the vibe, the better.
