5 Styling Tips to Steal From This Tiny Guest Room Makeover
A guest room can feel like a cozy escape, no matter how much space you have. For this simple makeover, decorating service Decorist transformed a clients underwhelming spare room into a colorful, breezy retreat — all with a few basic changes.

Before: A Cramped Wall 1. Make room around the bed.
Don't be fooled: Shoving your bed against a wall only creates the illusion of more space. For this guest room makeover, the design team at Decorist pulled the bed away from the window, opening up aisles on either side. Doing so improved the room's flow and made it easier for visitors to get into and out of bed — plus, it made room for nightstands, a must-have in every guest room.

After: An Airy Feel Decorist / At Home In Love2. Stick to one major piece of furniture per wall.
Originally, this room crammed a bed and a reading chair against the back wall. Neither felt right: The bed dominated the space and the chair felt awkwardly shoehorned in. For short walls, choose one item to highlight — in this case, the bed.
3. Even small mirrors have big impact.
We've all heard the maxim about mirrors: They open up your space, make a room feel larger, etc. Yes, it's all true, but mirrors can be expensive, wall-dominating items that can overwhelm a space. Don't worry: A smaller mirror has the same effect without stealing all of the attention.

Before: A Bulky Wardrobe 4. Cut out what the room doesn't need.
This guest room already has a closet — why did it need a bulky wardrobe as well? In the refresh, it was ditched to make way for a small seating area, a nice-to-have for visitors who may not need the extra storage.

After: A Colorful Corner Decorist / At Home In Love5. Lengthen your drapes.
Long, white drapes are a small but significant change: They soften the light and feel romantic and ethereal, yet tailored. Done correctly, they're the difference between a spare room and a getaway.
